  5. The Empress Database Server enables the Empress RDBMS to be fully distributed
  6. across a network of heterogeneous computers while appearing to the user as if
  7. it were resident on the user's own system.  Superior to traditional
  8. client/server implementations, Empress operates in a true to peer-to-peer
  9. mode, eliminating the need to segregate clients from servers.  Any system on
  10. the network can be designated as a client, a server, or both, giving greater
  11. options to the network manager for load balancing and applications design.  As
  12. a result, applications are more efficient and machine idle time is
  13. dramatically reduced.  In addition, Empress does not require any specific
  14. network filesystem, it relies only on the TCP/IP protocol found on all
  15. standard networks.
